Chung Ying Street
4.3

Chung Ying Street

Chung Ying Street, a street only 4 meters wide, attracts attention because it operates under two different systems. Of course, another reason for its popularity is its affordability, and shopping is always a major draw.

Located in Shatoujiao Town, Yantian District, Shenzhen, Chung Ying Street was originally named "Luzi Path." Before Hong Kong's return to China in 1997, the east side of the street belonged to China, and the west side to Britain, hence the name Chung Ying Street. After the handover, the east side now belongs to Shenzhen, and the west side to Hong Kong.

Chung Ying Street is less than 0.5 kilometers long, with a boundary stone marking the center. Shops line the street, offering goods from all five continents. The variety of goods is quite comprehensive. The boundary stone itself can be considered a small attraction; at least visitors take photos, but due to natural weathering, some stones have lost their sharp edges, and some inscriptions are blurred.

Many people misunderstand Chung Ying Street, believing it's full of counterfeit goods. However, long-term residents actually shop there instead of going to Hong Kong. Daily necessities and food are readily available, and some items are often cheaper than in Hong Kong. It's recommended to buy food, daily necessities, and cosmetics there. There's also a Chung Ying Street History Museum at the end of the street worth visiting. It's quite worthwhile, providing a good overview of Chung Ying Street's historical changes.

Judiaosha Beach
4.4

Judiaosha Beach

The beach is very large, the quality of the sand is particularly good, and the sand is very fine and white. The locals call this beach "Silver Beach" for this reason. The entire beach is like a crescent moon inlaid between the blue sea and blue sky. The shadows of the trees here are swirling, the sea breeze is gentle, and the entire bay stretches for one kilometer. It is surrounded by green mountains on three sides, and the sea and sky are the same color on one side. The warmth and romance that pervade the beach is unmatched by other beaches. The area of the beach is not very wide, but it has fine white sand like silver and dazzling blue sea water. Next to the beach is a cluster of tall, lush forests, and the name is also very strange, called Casuarina. Bright sunshine, blue waters, white sandy beaches and intoxicating sea breeze make Judiaosha an ideal seaside tourist resort.

Pro Tips

  • Keep some cash and small bills, around 20–100 yuan, because street food, local markets, and small shops often only take cash or mobile pay.
  • Use local apps like DiDi for rides, Shenzhen Metro for subway navigation, and Baidu Maps for real-time traffic and directions.
  • Bring your passport when shopping at duty-free stores or certain big malls to get instant tax refunds on eligible items.
  • Get a Shenzhen Tong card or add it to Apple/Google Wallet. It works on buses, the metro, some taxis, and even some convenience stores.
  • Shenzhen uses A, I, and C type plugs with 220V. Make sure your devices are compatible or bring a converter for high-power electronics.
  • Public trash cans are few and far between. Carry a small bag and throw your trash at convenience stores, malls, or your hotel.
